Miscrosoft officially stops supporting Windows 98

Microsoft made it official yesterday. If you still have a machine that runs on Windows 98 or ME, you're on your own. While there is a considerable knowledge base available at this Web site, the estimated 50 million legacy users of the two operating systems will face more pressure to upgrade now that Microsoft has pulled support.

eWeek's blog has an excellent post discussing the ramifications for users of the Windows systems and the potentially negative consequences for the continued presence of so many malware-ridden machines remaining online. The comments section is particularly worth reading for a thorough discussion of the subject.
